For the past few months, I have been rekindling my relationship with painting. I have not painted this seriously since my early teen years. I guess I have been searching for as many natural ways to tame and calm the OCD and anxiety…(I find it a much better alternative to staying up late and binge watching reruns of Law and Order SVU, getting nightmares from the secondary traumatization)…
…As I am doing this, I am beginning to see how much I really love it and have truly missed it. I used to paint and draw quite a bit as a child, and would try to mimic the artist and tv personality, Bob Ross, quite a lot, with landscape scenes….I loved painting the mountains and the trees…do you remember this show Joy of Painting…?
…It continues to be incredibly soothing, comforting and relaxing, watching him paint and listening to him speak while painting….He has become my new addiction lately…a great learning experience too). I think if I kept it up all these years I would have actually been quite good. But it is never too late. It has been helping my anxiety and it came back to me at the right time.
It’s important we take these types of moments in our lives to remember that you are never to old to do what you love to do…. whether as a hobby or for your potential career choice…
What I love most about Bob’s instructional videos, when he talks, and he says the cutest phrases, like my favorite is “happy little accidents…”
I have a lot of those when I paint, (and in real life situations too) …much of what he says can be translatable in our daily lives. That was one of his main attractions and continues to be the most appealing thing about his instructional videos. And he makes it all look so easy. The painting, and being happy.
It’s okay to make mistakes and use those “happy little accidents” as learning moments to grow, and see your mistakes as necessary in your growth processes…
Because purple skies is my symbol of hope and healing, the symbol for the Warrior Queen, as you see from the cover photo and theme/color scheme of this blog, and perhaps also the universal symbol of hope and healing in my opinion, I am starting a series of paintings, called purple skies, and it has been a rewarding experience in many ways. I will be sharing my paintings in the gallery page.
Peace and Blessings, Elsa, Warrior KQueen
“Look around. Look at what we have. Beauty is everywhere—you only have to look to see it.” – Bob Ross
“We tell people sometimes: we’re like drug dealers, come into town and get everybody absolutely addicted to painting. It doesn’t take much to get you addicted.”- Bob Ross
“The secret to doing anything is believing that you can do it. Anything that you believe you can do strong enough, you can do. Anything. As long as you believe.” – Bob Ross
